On Thursday, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein announced the intention of the Russian government to shut down the UN Human Rights Office in Moscow, Reuters reports.

According to him, dissidence is under pressure and repressions in Russia.

“I am concerned about the signals received from the government regarding its intention to shut down our office in Moscow," he said, speaking at the Human Rights Council in Geneva.

Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein also stressed that Russia needs more cooperation with human rights organizations on the subject of the shrinking space for human rights defenders and non-governmental organizations.
