Representatives of Western countries have strongly condemned the position of Russia and China about blocking the resolution on the establishment of the ceasefire regime in the Syrian civil war-torn Aleppo, according to the AA.
For 5 years of the ongoing conflict in Syria, Russia has blocked the resolution 6 times, the UK Permanent Representative to the UN, Matthew Rycroft, noted.
“The UN Security Council, as well as hundreds of thousands of innocent people in Syria are being held hostage by Russia. The blocking of the resolution, providing for the delivery of humanitarian aid to starving children, has nothing to do with the fight against terrorism,” the diplomat said, calling Moscow's statements about the struggle against terrorism "absolute fantasy."
December 5, Russia and China vetoed the UN Security Council resolution on the establishment of the ceasefire regime in Syrian Aleppo for a period of 7 days.
Russia has blocked the UN Security Council resolution for the sixth time since the beginning of the civil war in Syria in 2011. China has also used the veto against the resolution five times, the purpose of which is to establish a ceasefire in Syria.
