The Russian air force launched the first airstrikes near the city of Homs in Syria, reports CNN. The upper house of the Russia's parliament approved the use of the military beyond its borders.

The Federation Council unanimously supported the president’s request to dispatch troops to help the Syrian President Bashar Assad. Four Russian Su-34 Fullback fighter jets are now at the Latakia air base in Syria, and more than 600 Russian troops are in place.
