Religious leaders of Ukraine speak for European Integration

BRUSSELS(QHA) - Ukrainian hierarchs shared their opinion about European Integration of the country, reports Ukrinform. According to the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate Patriarch Filaret (Denysenko), association with the European Union will help Ukraine establish itself on a democratic path. He said this at meeting of hierarchs of the Ukrainian churches and religious organizations with President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy in Brussels, the Institute for Religious Freedom said in a statement on Tuesday. As for the Primate of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church Archbishop Sviatoslav (Shevchuk), he noted that Ukraine is a European state in spirit. "We have done a lot, so we ask Europe - do not leave Ukraine in this important moment in our history," he said. In turn, Mufti Sheikh Ahmed Tamim, Chairman of the Spiritual Directorate of Muslims of Ukraine, stressed: "Ukraine is a country where Muslims have lived for centuries. We live in peace and harmony, we cooperate - and we want it be so throughout Europe, that there is no room to extremism and aggression, that Muslim and other religious slogans are not used to spread evil." "Interreligious dialogue is very important for us, and we are pleased to welcome you all as representatives of the religious community of Ukraine,"- a representative of the Council of Europe van Rompuy office claimed. As reported, a delegation of heads and representatives of Ukrainian churches and religious organizations on September 30 arrived in Brussels on a three-day visit.
