KYIV (QHA) -

The Russian government denied mother of Oleg Sentsov pardoning his son.

The refusal to pardon Oleg Sentsov by the Russian president testifies that the Kremlin does not intend to release the Ukrainian political prisoner, the coordinator of the public initiative "CrimeaSOS" Tamila Tasheva stated in a comment to QHA.

“This is a signal that they are reluctant to release Oleg. All the documents needed for pardon were in fact prepared and transferred. International partners kept maximum communication with the official structures of the Russian Federation.”

According to the human rights activist, if desired, the Russian authorities could act the same in this case as in and in the case of Ilmi Umerov and Akhtem Chiygoz, but they do not.

“If we talk, for example, about the case of Ilmi Umerov and Akhtem Chiygoz, they also did not write official declarations of pardon, but they were released. There allegedly was an impersonal statement of the mufti of Crimea about pardon. Therefore, the cases of Ilmi Umerov, Akhtem Chyigoz and Oleg Sentsov are identical, only in the case of Oleg the application for pardon was written by his mother," said Tamila Tasheva.

The pardon department of the RF President's Office for Ensuring Constitutional Rights informed Lyudmila Sentsova that to begin the pardoning procedure, the Ukrainian filmmaker must himself appeal to the Russian president in writing.
