On March 2, the Crimean Tatar community in Turkey held a rally in support of Crimea in Ankara. The rally gathered participants from different parts of Turkey and has attracted great attention.
The participants chanted slogans such as: ‘Russia, get away from Crimea’, ‘Yesterday- Stalin, today- Putin’, ‘Crimean Tatar people will not surrender’ and others.
Speeches were made by chairman of the Association for Culture and Mutual Assistance of Crimean Tatars Tuncer Kalkay, representative of Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people in Turkey Zafer Karatay, head of Istanbul branch of the Association for Culture and Mutual Assistance of Crimean Tatars Celal Icten and Counselor of the Ukrainian Embassy in Turkey Vasiliy Bondar.
Rally members appealed to the international media and the entire Turkic world announcing about the current situation in Crimea. At the end of the rally the participants issued a resolution condemning occupation of Crimea by Russian militants and urging the international community to take measures to prevent destruction of state integrity of Ukraine.
After the rally, members of Association for Culture and Mutual Assistance of Crimean Tatars marched to the Russian Embassy in Turkey where they laid a black wreath, read aloud and left the resolution.
