Creation of the so-called Crimean Tatar People's Council in Crimea, which is under the occupation authorities control, is an attempt to create an organization independent of the Mejlis that would control the Crimean Tatar people. On February 20, the President of the Ukrainian Islamology Center Oleksandr Aulin made a corresponding statement at the presentation of the collective monograph Muslim Communities of Ukraine: Institutionalization and Development, the correspondent of QHA reports.
“This is one of the attempts to create an institution that would unite the Crimean Tatars and which would lead them in the direction that the Russian authorities are interested in,” the expert believes.
In his opinion, before the presidential elections in Russia this should show that the occupation authorities in the Crimea listen to the opinion of the Crimean Tatars.
“In view of the upcoming elections, this should show the consolidation of the local population and the fact that it completely follows the policy pursued by the Kremlin.”
At the same time, the methods that the Russian authorities use in the regions of the Russian Federation with the Muslim population have shown their inefficiency in the occupied Crimea.
“This is not a new tool, and the algorithms that it contains were already used many times, but were unsuccessful in the Crimea. Crimean Tatars do not succumb to the occupation authorities."
QHA reported that on February 17 in the occupied Crimea the Kremlin-controlled Council of the Crimean Tatar people was created, which supposedly provide a link between the so-called authorities and the population. It consists of "15 specialists in different fields" and is headed by the Kremlin-controlled Mufti of the Crimea Muslims Emirali Ablaev.
