This is what Putin said in an interview with the German newspaper Bild which was translated into Russian by the Kremlin’s press service.

“What did we do wrong? We neither fought, nor occupied, nor shot anyone. No person was killed during the events in Crimea. Not a single one!” Putin said.

Putin went on to say that the Russian Federation used its Armed Forces in Crimea to prevent the 20 thousand Ukrainian troops stationed there from interfering with a referendum on secession of Crimea to Russia.

“People came and cast their votes. They chose to be part of Russia,” said Putin.
