Russian President Putin said that armed men in camouflage uniforms, who took control of a number of facilities in Crimea, represent “local self-defense forces”. Putin said this during the press conference dedicated to the events in Ukraine.
Putin stated that participants of self-defense units in Kyiv, formed by supporters of the opposition have been prepared by instructors from Lithuania and Poland. He drew attention to good technical provision and self-organization of such units.
“Why do you think that in Crimea it should be worse?”- asked Putin, emphasizing that Russia had taken no part in preparation of such self-defense units in Crimea.
Vladimir Putin for the first time publicly commented events in Ukraine from the moment of removal of Viktor Yanukovych and the transfer of power under the control of the opposition.
