Prosecutor's Office withdrew charges against Safure Kadzhametova

In the meantime, Enver Abduraimov is still suspected of high treason.

The Prosecutor's Office of Crimea along with the General Prosecutor ‘s Office of Ukraine has ceased the criminal proceedings on suspicion of high treason against Safure Kadzhametova, former MP of Crimea, reports Krym.Realii news agency, citing Nazar Holodnitsky, First Deputy to Prosecutor of Crimea, as saying at a press conference in Kiev, on August 20.

According to him, the charges against former MP’s high treason were withdrewn on August, 19.

"While investigations, having verified the involvement of these citizens (Safura Kadzhametova, Enver Abduraimov) in high treason, we terminated the criminal proceedings against Kadzhametova due to lack of evidence," explained Holodnitskiy. However, Holodnitsky also said that former MP Enver Abduraimov is still under suspicion.

On February 13, 2015 Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine addressed to the Prosecutor General of Ukraine requesting to bring to justice the MPs of Crimea and the Sevastopol City Council for their participation in the referendum dated March,16, that incurred annexation of Crimea.

The media published the names of former MPs of Crimea suspected of high treason. Enver Abduraimov, former member of Regions of Crimea faction and Safura Kadzhametova, member of Kurultai-Ruh faction, ended up being on the list.

Refat Chubarov, Head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, claimed that Kadzhametova and Abduraimov were unfairly put in the list of traitors.
