The Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Crimea established that Ilmi Umer was unlawfully confined in a psychiatric clinic, Mustafa Jemilev, Commissioner of the Ukrainian President on Crimean Tatars Affairs, posted on his Facebook page.
The resolution of the Kiev District Court of Simferopol was issued by the judge, who usurped the powers and decided to illegally transfer Ilmi Umerov to a psychiatric facility for supposedly stationary forensic psychiatric examination.
“Given that, the Prosecutor's Office of the autonomy initiated a pre-trial investigation into the two criminal proceedings on the grounds of criminal offenses under Part 1 of Art. 151 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal placement in a psychiatric institution) and Part. 1 of Art. 353 of the Criminal Code (unauthorized appropriation of power),” reads the message on the website of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.
The criminal case against the Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Ilmi Umerov was launched at the request of the so-called Public Prosecutor’s Office of Crimea. The prosecution alleges that in March 2016, Umerov being in the territory of Ukraine, publicly called to "violate the territorial integrity of Russia" during his live interview with ATR TV Channel.
August 18, FSB officers - before the entry of the court decision into force - illegally transferred Umerov from the hospital to a psychiatric clinic, taking away vital medication and allowing him to see his family in a strictly specified time.
