On March 10, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko meets with His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I in Istanbul, Svyatoslav Tsegolko, a spokesperson for the Ukrainian President, twitted.
“President meets with His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I,” Tsegolko wrote.
According to him, the Patriarch Bartholomew assured that he prays for the unity of Ukraine and the Church.
The meeting is held within the framework of the official visit of the Ukrainian President to the Republic of Turkey. President’s wife Marina Poroshenko is also present at the meeting with the Patriarch of Constantinople.
It was reported earlier by QHA that following the Fifth meeting of the High-Level Strategic Council held on March 9 and co-chaired by the heads of the Republic of Turkey and Ukraine, a Joint Declaration was solemnly signed between the two countries.
The Declaration stresses the need for a strategic partnership between the two countries, which, due to geographical location in the Black Sea basin, share responsibility for this region.
