Portugal supports the proposal of Ukraine regarding the introduction of the UN peacekeeping mission to the Donbas. Defense Minister of Ukraine Stepan Poltorak made a corresponding statement at a joint press conference with the Minister of National Defense of Portugal José Alberto de Azeredo Lopes on April 4.

“We discussed the security situation in Ukraine and the world, as well as the issue of the introduction of a peacekeeping mission in the Donbas. We have received full support for the idea of introducing a mission based on standards existing in the UN," he said.

Reportedly, on April 10, as part of the visit to Germany, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko will discuss with German Chancellor Angela Merkel the possibility of introducing peacekeepers to the Donbas.

QHA reported that about 20,000 UN peacekeepers are needed to resolve the situation in the ORDL, according to the report prepared on behalf of the NATO ex-secretary general, adviser to the president of Ukraine Anders Fogh Rasmussen. The introduction of peacekeepers to the Donbas will allow holding local elections there.
