President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko is satisfied with the progress of the dialogue with the new US administration headed by Donald Trump.
“At the moment I am happy with the process of mending fences and establishing our dialogue with the new US administration,” the President said, speaking at a rapid gathering of the management staff of military command bodies, Commanders of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Commanders of combat units and formations in the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The President recalled that he held a very important meeting with US Vice President Michael Pence in Munich.
Equally important were the telephone talks with the US Secretary Rex Tillerson, during which the parties discussed the recent escalation of violence in the Donbas and Russian violation of Minsk agreements. In addition, Poroshenko and Tillerson outlined a number of issues at the current stage of strengthening the strategic partnership between Ukraine and the USA.
In his speech in front of the military, Poroshenko noted that telephone conversation with the Head of the United States Donald Trump was quite effective. However, the President is disappointed that a number of Ukrainian politicians hire lobbyists in Washington, plotting moves and preventing domestic diplomacy to work on deepening the US-Ukrainian partnership.
The first phone conversation of Poroshenko with Donald Trump took place on February 5. Ukrainian President congratulated his counterpart with the inauguration and called for the intensification of dialogue and strengthening the partnership between the two countries.
