Poroshenko predicts escalation of hostilities in Donbass

According to the Ukrainian president, Russia will continue to ignore the Minsk agreements and be engaged in hostilities with Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Pyotr Poroshenko believes Russia’s continued violations of the Minsk agreements may reignite hostilities in eastern Ukraine, says a message Pyotr Poroshenko’s spokesperson posted on Poroshenko’s Twitter page.

“There is a strong likelihood of hostilities reigniting in eastern Ukraine due to Russia’s continued violation of the commitments it undertook in Minsk,” the message says.  

According to the ATO press service, Russian mercenaries fired 84 times on positions held by the Ukrainian troops as of 6 o’clock February 24. Ukrainian troops near Donetsk came under intense fire from mortars, grenade launchers, large caliber machine guns and small arms on 69 occasions.

Position of the Ukrainian troops near the villages of Avdeyevka, Peski, Opytnoye, Zaitsevo, Mayorsk and Pervomayskoye, as well as near the Butovka and Zenite mines, got fired upon from 120 and 82 mm mortars.

Enemy fired mortars on positions of Ukrainian troops near the villages of Talakovka, Chermalyk and Vodyanoye in the area around Mariupol.
