At the ceremony on the occasion of the introduction of a visa-free regime between Ukraine and the Schengen countries on the Ukrainian-Slovak border, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and Slovak President Andrei Kyska opened a symbolic door in a visa-free zone.
The ceremony was held at the checkpoint "Uzhgorod" in the Transcarpathian region, UNIAN reports.
Poroshenko called the entry into force of visa-free regime the between Ukraine and the EU a historic moment that destroys the paper curtain separating Ukraine from Europe.
"We have been waiting for this for a long time, and this is a historic moment when we are raising the paper curtain that separates Ukraine from Europe. This means that Ukraine has carried out huge reforms. Together we have changed the country, and our partners from Europe have kept their word, and the doors of the European Union, the doors of our friends and partners are open to our great nation, the Ukrainian people.”
Earlier, QHA reported that on June 11, the EU Agreement on visa liberalization with Ukraine came into force.
