President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko held telephone talks with the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and urged him to release Ukrainian political prisoners, the press service of the Administration of President reported.

"The Head of the Ukrainian state called for the release of Ukrainian hostages kept in Russian prisons and in the occupied territories," reads the report.

Furthermore, Poroshenko said that the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for Human Rights Lyudmila Denisova needs to gain access to the Ukrainian filmmaker Oleg Sentsov and other political prisoners.

The sides also discussed the implementation of the Minsk agreements.

“Poroshenko stressed the need for Russia to implement the Minsk agreements. The importance of activating the work in the Norman format with the aim of coordinating the concept of deploying the international UN peacekeeping mission in the occupied part of Donbas as an important instrument for the implementation of Minsk was also noted.

Earlier, June 9, Petro Poroshenko held telephone talks with Vladimir Putin, during which he called on him to release all Ukrainian political prisoners.

QHA reported that the Sejm of Poland on June 15 passed a resolution demanding the release of all Ukrainian political prisoners in Russia. The Polish MPs called for the release of Oleg Sentsov. Also, Oleksandr Kolchenko and Roman Sushchenko illegally convicted in the Russian Federation were separately mentioned.
