President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko called on representatives of churches and denominations to join the implementation of the peace plan in Donetsk and Luhansk regions, official web site of Ukrainian President reports.
“Our Church shouldn’t stay aside. It seems to me that in these conditions the Church's involvement and its charitable mission would be increasingly important," - Poroshenko was quoted as saying by his press service.
The President offered the ecclesiastics to support people who are held hostage by militants and facilitate the establishment of dialogue for their liberation.
“This is the service to God, that Ukraine, people and hostages need today, -he emphasized. Representatives of all faiths are welcome to contribute to this process” - he added.
Poroshenko's initiative has won support from Ukrainian Orthodox Church Metropolitan Onuphriy and Patriarch Filaret, head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate, according to the presidential press service
