The attempts of the Russian Federation to place nuclear warheads in the occupied Crimea will be crowned with a failure, said former US Ambassador to Ukraine Steven Pifer. In his interview with the Segodnya ("Today"), the Ambassador also noted that the attempts to deploy nuclear weapons on the peninsula are not a surprise.
“Russian officials have already hinted that they intend to place nuclear installations on the peninsula. The West cannot hinder Russia, but NATO will immediately take this into account and plan how to strengthen the deterrent and defense capabilities of the Alliance,” said Pifer.
It was reported earlier that a video was released online showing a column of Russian military equipment - including Iskander operational-tactical missile complexes, capable of carrying and launching nuclear warheads - moving accross the territory of Crimea.
