KYIV (QHA) -

Appeal to the world in defense of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people is the direct responsibility of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andriy Paruby said to the morning session of the parliament, according to a QHA correspondent.

“Today, the Crimean Tatar people are subjected to persecution and harassment, as Communists and the Nazis used to do. The duty of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is to offer words of support for Crimean Tatars and to appeal to international organizations, especially to those advocating for easing sanctions against Russia. In the XXI century, a crime is being committed against the entire nation. The entire civilized world must stand shoulder to shoulder with the Crimean Tatar people. Our position must be common and resolute,” he said.

It was reported earlier that MPs – by 248 votes – adopted the draft resolution “On the Appeal of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to International organizations and Foreign Parliaments on non-recognition and condemning the ban of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people by the Russian Federation, as well as on protection of the indigenous people of Crimea by the International Community” (No. 5215 of October 3, 2016).
