STRASBOURG (QHA) -

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) refused to hold an urgent debate on the illegal presidential elections in Russia held in the annexed Crimea, the head of the Ukrainian delegation to PACE Volodymyr Ariev informed on his Facebook page.

"The PACE Bureau, by the votes of the Left and Socialists, refused to hold urgent debates on the request of Britain, Ukraine and other members on the subject of Salisbury, illegal elections in the Crimea, etc.," he wrote.

QHA reported that the PACE was to hold an urgent debate on the issues of the peninsula, annexed by Russia, in particular, to discuss illegal presidential elections in the Russian Federation and violation of human rights.

Earlier, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine registered a presidential bill number 8297, which provides for the deprivation of Ukrainian citizenship from Crimeans for voting in the illegal presidential elections in Russia held in the occupied Crimea.

The document suggests taking part in the "elections" as grounds for depriving Ukrainian citizenship. The norm applies to all citizens of Ukraine who took part in illegal elections.
