KYIV (QHA) -

The OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, Harlem Désir, called on Russia to release Ukrainian political prisoners. He made a corresponding statement during a press conference on freedom of the media in Ukraine.

"I call for the release of Oleg Sentsov," he said.

Desir also called for the release of Stanislav Aseyev, Mykola Semena and Roman Sushchenko.

At the same time, the OSCE representative stated that journalists in Ukraine cannot work freely, and also called for investigating the murders of journalists Oles Buzina and Pavlo Sheremet.

“The safety of journalists is threatened not only in the conflict zone. They are attacked because of the investigation of corruption cases. We often talk about the murders of Pavlo Sheremet and Oles Buzina. I call to end impunity of crimes against journalists.”

QHA reported that Lyudmila Denisova, the Verkhovna Rada's Commissioner for Human Rights, demanded Russia to provide access to Ukrainian political prisoners in the RF and the occupied Crimea. According to the Ukrainian Ombudsman, the Russian side gives contradictory information about the health status of political prisoners Oleg Sentsov and Volodymyr Balukh.
