The draft constitution of the Republic of Crimea does not stipulate preferences and quotas in government bodies for representatives of any of the ethnicities inhabiting the Crimean peninsula, including the Crimean Tatars.
Grigory Ioffe, head of a commission in charge of drafting the constitution announced.
“Russian constitution and laws stipulate no preferences or quotas on a national basis”- he emphasized.
The Crimean parliament is due to adopt a new constitution for the region on Friday.
Crimean Parliament speaker Vladimir Konstantinov described the event as “historical”.
“A historical sitting of the State Council of the Republic of Crimea will be held Friday. Using my competence, I convene a special meeting of the State Council on approval of the Constitution of the Republic of Crimea as a subject of the Russian Federation,”- he noted.
