Simferopol (QHA) - The first session of Kurultay of Crimean Tatar people to be held on 26-27 October this year, press service of Mejlis informs.
Relevant decree was accepted on August 15 at Mejlis meeting. According to the decree, the agenda for Kurultay will be prepared and submitted to Mejlis for approval before October 1.
One of the issues to be discussed at the Kurultay session is the election of new head of Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people. Earlier, Mustafa Dzhemilev announced that he will not run for the post of head of Mejlis again. According to Dzhemilev three people may run for the post, namely Refat Chubarov, Remzi Ilyasov and Ahtem Chiygoz.
Dzhemilev emphasized he will help a newly-elected leader at the beginning.
“I will still be close to Mejlis. For me it is important that the system stays operational not depending on one person. That is the main thing”, stressed Dzhemilev.
The head of Mejlis also stressed that his decision is not connected to the tragedy in his family. As reported, on May 27 his son Hayser Dzhemilev killed a man from a gun. At present Hayser is in detention.
“This situation will not break me. My decision to leave the post was made long ago”, said Dzhemilev.
To be noted, elections for new composition of Kurltay were held under a new electoral system, on the basis of universal, equal and direct suffrage by secret voting.
Out of 250 seats in Kurultay, 200 were determined by majority districts, while 50 mandates were given to political groups and public organizations.
The elections, which began in April and ended in June, took place in 25 regions of Crimea as well as outside of Crimea, in Kherson, Kyiv, Melitopol, Zaporozhye.
