Prior to the vote, the Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, MP from the "Petro Poroshenko Block," Refat Chubarov addressed the parliamentarians.

“The illegal so-called "Court" of Crimea has decided to ban the activity of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people and recognized it an extremist organization. Following the ban, the Mejlis members held a meeting, and we decided to respond to the message of the Western partners, and appealed to the Russian Supreme Court,” he said.

According to Chubarov, they tried to demonstrate that the negotiations with the aggressor in the field of human rights are not effective.

“But on September 29, the court rejected the appeal. Now Mejlis is considered an extremist organization and its activity is banned in Russia. Immediately following this decision, the repression began. Searches of the Crimean Tatar activists have been conducted since morning,” he added.

The MP also called for including the Ukrainian citizen and Crimean Muslim Vadim Siruk in the list of Russia-persecuted Crimean Tatar activists.

September 29, the Supreme Court of Russia held a meeting on the case "On the prohibition of the activities of the public association "Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people" under the Article 9 of the Federal Law of 25.07.2002, No.1145-FL" On counteracting extremist activity."

The panel of judges of the Supreme Court of Russia in Moscow banned the activity of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people on the territory of the Russian Federation and the occupied Crimea.
