MOSCOW (QHA) -
The City Court of Moscow recognized as legal the decision on the administrative arrest of the Russian opposition politician Aleksei Navalny for 20 days over calling for an uncoordinated action, the press secretary of Navalny Kira Yarmysh reported.
 
The police detained Navalny on September 29, when he left the house in Moscow heading to a rally in the city of Nizhny Novgorod.

On October 2, the Simonovskiy Court of Moscow arrested Navalny for 20 days for a repeated violation of the procedure for holding mass actions. The politician was found guilty of calling for an uncoordinated action in Nizhny Novgorod.

Navalny stated that he was detained in order not to prevent him holding rallies in support of his election campaign. He also said that his arrest is a gift to Vladimir Putin for his birthday on October 7.

​Earlier, the Russian oppositionist Aleksei Navalny announced the holding of a protest on 7 October throughout Russia.
