The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has expressed its categorical protest against the refusal of the Rostov Regional Court to transfer the proceedings in the case of illegally detained in Russia Nadezhda Savchenko, member of the Permanent Delegation of Ukraine to PACE and deputy of Ukraine, to Moscow, the press service of the MFA of Ukraine reports.

“We consider this decision as well as deliberate delaying the trail as another evidence of ongoing legal arbitrariness and lawlessness of Russia, accompanied by false excuses for her retention,” says the statement.

The MFA of Ukraine stressed the ‘inadmissibility of violations by Russia generally recognized immunities of Nadezhda Savchenko as a member of PACE and deputy of Ukraine’, and demanded ‘to immediately release her and other illegally detained citizens in the Russian Federation to ensure the full implementation of its obligations under international law’.

“We call upon the international community to continue to put pressure on Russia to return Savchenko and stop violations of fundamental human rights in relation to other political prisoners illegally detained in Russia,” the MFA noted.

With regard to making such a judgment, the note of protest was sent to Russian MFA.
