The case on the detention of a Ukrainian citizen, military Vitaliy Markiv, in Italy, is closely monitored by the Department of Consular Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Consulate General of Ukraine in Milan, according to the Department of Consular Service of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.

“In connection with the detention of the Ukrainian citizen Vitaliy Markiv in Italy, the Consulate General of Ukraine in Milan requested the Pavia City Court to provide the information on the grounds and circumstances of his detention and  to enable the Consular officer to visit Markiv in the near future as well as to attend the court session on his case on July 4, 2017,” according to the report.

The Ukrainian Consul has contacted the lawyer of the detainee and agreed the specific terms for further actions, and Markiv's relatives has been informed on his detention, reads the report.

Earlier, a Ukrainian citizen who had been detained in Italy was accused of involvement in the death of Italian photojournalist Andrea Rockelli in Donbas in 2014.
