The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine considers the case of Akhtem Chiygoz to be completely fabricated, and the decisions of the occupational "court" void. Ukrainian MFA demands the immediate release of the Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people. The spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry, Mariana Betsa, made a corresponding statement on her Twitter page.
“The decision on the Chiygoz case is void. The case is fabricated. We protest and demand release.”
Earlier, the Kremlin-controlled Kyiv district court of the occupied Simferopol, March 23, held a regular hearing of the case against Deputy Chairman of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Akhtem Chiyhoz, who is charged with organizing riots at the rally on February 26, 2014. According to the "judge’s" decision, the preventive custody of the Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis was extended until July 8, 2017.
Ahtem Chiyhoz has been detained for more than two years, awaiting sentencing. At the "court" he has repeatedly stated that he does not admit his guilt and intends to fight for the truth till the end. In his addresses to compatriots, he thanked them for support and called for "not being afraid of anything in their native land."
