German Chancellor Angela Merkel says that Germany is ready to take a more active part in the policy of containment of Russia on the eastern borders, Spiegel Online reports.
The decision about entering the Bundeswehr military is to be approved at NATO summit in Warsaw.
According to the news outlet, Merkel announced this proposal at a mini-summit with the leaders of Britain, France, Italy and the United States in Hanover. Barack Obama said he expects first of all the deployment of the German and British troops in the Baltic states.
A battalion of about 1000 people, including a company from Germany, is expected to be deployed in each of the Baltic countries.
It was reported earlier that Germany has expressed a note of protest against the participation of Ukraine in NATO exercises in Eastern Europe "Anaconda-2016."
