- Both Turkey and the EU are interested in finding a political solution to the migration crisis. Thus, it is in Germany’s interests as well. It is important to legitimize the movement of migrants and distribute the load. Turkey bears the heavy burden of the civil war in Syria, Angela Merkel said after meeting with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto.
This year, the EU and Turkey have reached an Agreement providing "one-in, one-out" formula, i.e. resettlement of the Syrian refugees, brought to Turkey from the Greek islands, in the European Union. So far, only three countries have taken in the refugees - Germany, the Netherlands and Finland.
