Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko held phone talk with German Chancellor Angela Merkel to discuss international community’s support on the settlement of the situation in east Ukraine.
In the conversation, that took place ahead of a European Council meeting, Poroshenko informed Merkel about the further flow through the Ukrainian-Russian border of weapons and militants into the eastern regions of Ukraine.
Merkel said that Ukraine was now among her priority issues. He assured that at a European Council meeting on July 16 Ukraine would get "tough support" from the EU.
Poroshenko emphasized that he was a supporter of the peaceful settlement, giving the example of Sloviansk, where, after the liberation of the town from militants, vital infrastructure was restored within 24 hours, and people were able to return to normal.
The actions of the Ukrainian authorities will be the same in Luhansk and Donetsk, he added.
