Mejlis prevented from speaking at Dec 1 meeting in Simferopol

Deputy head of Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people Ahtem Chiygoz and Kurultay Electoral Committee’s head Zair Smedlyaev were preventing from speaking at the meeting Dec 1 in Simferopol.

The meeting, dedicated to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Ankara, was organized by “Qirim” civil organization, which was created by deputy chairman of Crimean Parliament Remzi Ilyasov.

According to Smedlyaev, young men in a sportswear took him and Chiygoz aside, saying “people don’t need it”, “why are you stirring people up”.

The meeting, which gathered some of 500 people,  was attended by Crimean Tatar officials, among them deputy chairman of Crimean Parliament Remzi Ilyasov and head of State Committee for Interethnic Affairs and Deported Citizens Zaur Smirnov, deputy mayor of Simferopol Teyfuk Gafarov and advisor for Russian presidential envoy in Crimea Eskender Bilyalov.

In the end of the meeting, which lasted not more then an hour, the participants adopted a resolution, which read:

“We, the participants of the meeting support the policy of Russian President Vladimir Putin and his official visit to Turkish Republic. We believe that Crimea will be a factor, for development of friendly Russian-Turkish relationships, in particular in trade-economical sphere”.
