The Mejlis members made a gift to a wife of a Crimean Tatar political prisoner Ali Asanov. March, 29 they presented Elnara Assanova a Lenovo laptop outside the courthouse following a regular hearing in a trumped up case of "February 26."
The gift was presented by Nariman Dzhelyal, Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People.
March, 29 at 10 a.m the Appeal Court held a session concerning the ruling by judge Galina Redko as of 03/02/16, under which she arbitrarily and extrajudicially extended the detention of Ahtem Chiygoz, Ali Asanov and Mustafa Degermendzhi.
However, the main defendants in the case of "February 26" Ahtem Chiygoz, Ali Asanov and Mustafa Degermendzhi were not brought to the hearing.
As QHA reported earlier, Chiygoz’s lawyers filed a motion to adjourn the hearing since the participants were not informed properly.
The so-called Crimean Supreme Court not only failed to notify the defenders, but also did not send copies of complaints.
The judges refused to postpone the hearing for April 6, but decided to adjourn until Thursday March 31 when neither Polozov, nor the second Chiygoz’s lawyer were able to be attend.
Ali Asanov, father of four young children, resident of the village of Urozhayne, Dzhankoy district, was arrested on April 15, 2015. According to investigators, Ali Asanov participated in the "mass riots," which took place February 26, 2014 outside the Crimean Parliament. One of the rallies was held by the supporters of Ukraine's territorial integrity, while the other – by the "Russian Unity" Party.
Despite all defense’s arguments, neither the Court of First Instance nor the Crimean Supreme Court has satisfied the petition to release Asanov. In June 2015, Asanov became father for the fourth time.
