Ilmi Umerov, the Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, told the QHA (Crimean News Agency) about the situation with the disappearance of the Crimean Tatars who do not support the Russia’s occupation of Crimea.
- We have not noticed that people went missing earlier. This phenomenon emerged after Crimea has been occupied by the Russian Federation. Close to two dozen people went missing, and no one is searching them, no one cares, Umerov said.
He also said that he, as welll as the other Mejlis members, is constantly kept under surveillance and called in for questioning by the FSB, police and the Prosecutor's Office in particular in the case of "February 26". He added that the phones are also being tapped.
Umerov stressed that his work, as well as the activities of all Crimean Tatars, is absolutely open. When asked whether he fears for his life and the lives of his loved ones, Ilmi Umerov said:
- Yes, I'm scared of going to jail, but the fear that this regime will last for a long time is stronger.
