(QHA) -

Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people-- supreme executive body of Crimean Tatars-- is not going to register as a civil organization under the Russian law.

Deputy head of Mejlis Ahtem Chiygoz said this to Krym.realii.

“The point is that they are suggesting that we register at the level of a civil organization which is unacceptable since the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People is an elected representative body. It is impossible to put it in the same category with civil organizations”- he said.

Chiygoz’s announcement comes after Remzi Ilyasov, former deputy head of Mejlis, now deputy chairman of Crimean Parliament, expressed his hope that the Mejlis will register as a NGO as soon as possible.

“It seems like Ilyasov has never been Mejlis member”- Chiygoz said.

Earlier, head of Crimea Sergey Aksyonov announced “Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people did not exist, until it was registered properly.

The central office of Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people has been raided in Simferopol. Mejlis stuff was given 24 hours to evacuate the building.

As for the head of Mejlis Refat Chubarov, he was banned from entering Crimea for 5 years, so did Crimean Tatar leader Mustafa Jemilev.

Both leaders were accused of extremist activity.
