Bakhchisaray office of Mejlis and the Crimean Tatar community are indignant at discrimination of the rights of Crimean Tatars in Crimea, reads the statement of Mejlis.

“Crimean Tatar people’s statehood was destroyed as a result of mass deportation in 1944.Their rights were abused and are not restored yet. And now in the XXI century the policy of communism and Stalinism against Crimean Tatars reset in Crimea. We believe that the restriction of rights of Crimean Tatars aims to frighten them and force to mass migration from Crimea”- reads the statement of Bakhchisaray Mejlis office.

Besides this, Crimean Tatars hope for international organizations’ support in settling political issues, and release of Mejlis’s deputy head Ahtem Chiygoz, who was arrested Jan 29 charged with “organizing mass disorder” during a rally Feb 26, 2014 in Simferopol.

Chiygoz’s arrest comes days after Russian security forces raided independent Crimean television station ATR, seizing equipment and looking for archival footage of a pro-Ukrainian rally held Feb 26, 2014.

The rally, organized by head of Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov, aimed to show the support of Crimean Tatar for Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
