Mejlis expresses condolences over plane crash tragedy in Luhansk

Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people expressed its condolences to relatives of those Ukrainian soldiers who died in plane crash on June 14, reads the statement on Mejlis’s official web site.

Officials said 49 people -- 40 troops and nine crew members -- perished when a Ukrainian army transport aircraft was struck by a surface-to-air missile in the early morning hours of June 14 as it approached Luhansk airport, where heavily armed separatists control much of the area.

“On behalf of Crimean Tatar people we express our solidarity with Ukrainian people and share the its pain”- read the statement.

Mejlis also noted the conflict in Ukraine should be solved peacefully.

“We call on Ukraine, Russia and authoritative international organizations to take all measures, provided by international laws, to fight with terrorism and secure territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine”- the statement reads.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has declared a day of mourning for those killed in the deadliest attack on national troops since the pro-Russian uprising began in the country's south and east.
