KYIV (QHA) -

A regular meeting of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people was held in Kyiv on October 7. It was attended by members of the Mejlis, who moved to mainland Ukraine after the occupation of Crimea.

The head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov summarized the results of the event at Chongar associated with the anniversary of the civil blockade of the annexed Crimea. During this event the Crimean Tatars, carrying a large Crimean Tatar flag, marched approaching close to the positions of Russian occupation troops.

The Chairman of the Crimean Tatar Mejlis noted that the Ukrainian delegation, when attending the autumn session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, is to raise the issue of sanctions against Russia for conducting elections to the Russia's State Duma in the occupied Crimea.

Refat Chubarov noted that it is necessary to constantly raise the issue of sanctions at the international level.

The Ministry of Justice of Ukraine and the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people will submit to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) a joint complaint about the ban on Mejlis in the occupied Crimea and territory of the Russian Federation.

October 5, Ukrainian MPs – by 248 votes – adopted at the first vote the draft resolution No. 5215 of October 3, 2016 “On the Appeal of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to international organizations and Foreign Parliaments on non-recognition and condemning the ban of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people by the Russian Federation, as well as on protection of the indigenous people of Crimea by the International Community.”

On September 29, 2016, the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation dismissed the appeal of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people against the "decision" by the so-called "Supreme Court of the Republic of Crimea" of April 26, 2016 to recognize the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people an "extremist organization" and ban its activity in the territory of the Russian Federation.

Ukraine and the world community has not recognized and firmly condemned the retaliatory decision of the Russian court.
