Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people condemns another wave of political repressions against Crimean Tatar national movement activists, reads the statement of Crimean Tatars’ executive-representative body, made during the Mejlis sitting.

There are another arrests of Crimean Tatars activists on the issue of May 3 clashes in Crimea. Edem Osmanov was arrested Jan 19, 2015. Three coordinators of the committee on Crimean Tatar Rights Protection were detained by Russia’s FSB security service Jan 23 on Crimea-Ukrainian checkpoint in Armyansk.

On January 29, Russian law enforcement arrested deputy head of Mejlis Akhtem Chiygoz. It was announced Chiygoz would be detained for at least three weeks until February 19. He may face up to 10 years in prison according to charges of the Russian Public Prosecutor. On January 30, Chiygoz's house was searched.

“Akhtem Chiygoz is not an organizer of any rallies. Moreover, the events, occurred in then Autonomous Republic of Crimea Feb 26, 2014, do not fall within the jurisdiction of Russian Federation”- said in the statement.

“These facts of arbitrariness show the policy of Crimean authorities aimed at restraining of will of Crimean Tatar people and pressure on the activity of Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people—the supreme representative and executive body of the Crimean Tatar people”.
