The Ministry of Justice has instructed the Federal Penitentiary Service to prepare documents for the transfer of four prisoners to Ukraine, including illegally convicted Director Oleg Sentsov, reported RIA News.
This refers to Oleg Sentsov, Alexander Kolchenko, Gennadi Afanasyev and Yuri Soloshenko. The final decision on the transfer will be taken by the Russian federal courts, the press service of the Department told RIA News.
According to the Ministry of Justice, Ukraine submitted a request for transfer of Ukrainian prisoners to serve their term in the homeland on April, 7.
- On the ground of Ukraine’s requests as of March 10, 2016 the Russia’s Ministry of Justice on March, 25 sent letters to the Federal Penitentiary Service instructing to prepare the necessary documents for the transfer of these convicts, as well as to check the presence or absence of bases preventing this transfer. The Ukraine's Ministry of Justice was informed on it the same day, according to the press-service.
The Ukrainian Director Oleg Sentsov and activist Alexander Kolchenko have been illegally detained in occupied Crimea and later tried by Russian authorities on charges of planning and organizing the terrorist attacks on the peninsula.
The Russian Court has sentenced Sentsov to 20 years in prison, while Kolchenko received 10-year jail term as alleged accomplice of Sentsov.
