Oleh Lyashko, a Ukrainian MP, commented on the recent offshore scandal at today's meeting in the Verkhovna Rada, a QHA journalist reports.
“A total of US $ 170 billion was taken out of Ukraine through offshore accounts over the years of independence,” he said. “I ask why farmers have to pay taxes. Why retirees with their dime pension should give 20% of it to fill the budget? Why President Poroshenko is hiding his money in offshore to avoid paying taxes? He does not consider it necessary to pay taxes for the maintenance of the poor, army and so on.”
Lyashko announced collection of signatures to open impeachment proceedings to the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko.
It should be mentioned that on April 3, the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ), as well as the world media websites published a large amount of material showing that a number of major politicians, actors, musicians and businessmen use offshore companies for tax evasion. Among the involved persons are Russian President Vladimir Putin, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, Lionel Messi and other celebrities.
The transactions of 12 current and former world leaders, 128 politicians and officials, 29 billionaires from the list of the richest people according to Forbes are mentioned in the publication. It's the biggest leak of information (more than 11 million files).
