Head of Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov made a speech at the meeting dedicated to 96th anniversary of Noman Chelebicihan’s death. The event took place at the central square in Simferopol.
In his speech Chubarov noted that Crimean Tatars give the government 10 days to pull all the statues of Lenin down in Crimea.
“We urge Simferopol City Council and Simferopol Mayor Mr. Ageev to clear this beautiful square from Lenin Statue. We require them to make in 10 days”- Chubarov said.
He also added that he prevented people from pulling the statue of Lenin down.
“Today we made every effort to prevent people at the square from pulling the Lenin statue down. People recognize the statue as a symbol of dictatorial, totalitarian regimes that have a place in today’s Ukraine”. – he said.
As reported, Simferopol city mayor Viktor Ageev has already ordered to conduct a poll in Simferopol on replacing the statue.
To recall, amid anti-government protest that took place in Ukraine, activists have pulled a number of Lenin statues down all over Ukraine.
