Simferopol (QHA) - Prominent Ukrainian politicians attended Kurultay of Crimean Tatar people. In particular head of the Ukrainian Parliament’s Committee on Culture and Spirituality Vyacheslav Kirilenko spoke to Kurultay delegates.
“We respect the struggle of the Crimean Tatar people. It is a great example of people fighting for their national and personal rights. We have repeatedly supported Mustafa Jemilev and Refat Chubarov in their initiatives at the Ukrainian Parliament to adopt a law on deportation of the Crimean Tatar people. But we know that the Ukrainian as well as the Crimean parliaments still have many political successors of the communist regime, who don’t want this to happen. We should make them admit the regime’s fault and apologize, - Kirilenko stressed.
“We should remember Ukraine has to face the problems left from the Soviet Empire. Crimean Tatar issue is one of them. The issue can be settled only by strong government that cares about the prosperity of its nations. That is the main message we should go on with.”
He also noted the Ukrainian opposition forces want Mejlis to be recognized as a unified representative body of Crimean Tatars.
