Kyiv court starts hearings on banning the Communist Party

Kyiv District Administrative Court is starting hearings on banning the Communist Party today, July 24.

The suit on finding the Communist Party illegal has been filed by the Justice Ministry and the State Registration Service.

The request based on various alleged indiscretions, including support for separatists in eastern Ukraine and calls for changes to Ukraine's territorial integrity and constitutional order.

Meanwhile Ukrainian Parliament speaker Oleksandr Turchynov announced the dissolution of the Ukrainian Communist Party faction in the Parliament amid reduction in the number of faction deputies from 33 to 23, which contradicts to the rules of procedure.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko signed amendments to the parliament's rules of procedure, which paved the way for the dissolution of the Communist Party faction.
