The official position of Turkey and the recent statement of the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan about the overthrow of the Assad regime does not coincide with the position of Moscow, according to the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov, UNIAN reports.
“The statement was really a surprise. This is a very serious statement. The statement, which generally contradicts the previous one, and a statement that contradicts our understanding of the situation, since we are the state whose armed forces are the only legitimate in the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic, under the appropriate treatment of the legitimate authorities - it is very important to remember.”
At the end of his speech Peskov expressed hope that in the near future Moscow will receive an explanation regarding Erdogan's words.
Earlier, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, during one of his last performances in Istanbul, said that the operation "Shield Euphrates" implies not only the fight against IS terrorists, but the overthrow the oppressive regime of Assad as well returning the territories of Syria to the Syrian people.
The "Euphrates Shield" is a joint military operation carried out by the special operation groups with the Turkish Armed Forces and the Air Forces of the international coalition against ISIL terrorist organization in Syria, which started in the early morning of August, 24. The main objectives of the offensive are to clear the frontier regions from IS terrorists, ramp up the border security, provide support for the territorial integrity in Syria, as well as to prevent the creation of so-called "Kurdish corridor” on the southern border.
Over the recent weeks, as a result of constant bombardment of the eastern Aleppo by the Assad regime and the Russian Aviation, the death toll has reached 613 people. More than 300 thousand civilians in 30 square kilometers of blocked areas, remain the prisoners of the circumstances.
