Kremlin downplays Chechen threat to arm Mexico

Chechen proposals to export weapons to Mexico would 'violate' Russian law, says Kremlin spokesperson Dmitriy Peskov.

The statement comes as an ally of Chechen ruler Ramzan Kadyrov had urged the Russian republic to provide weapons to Mexico for attacking the United States, reported Radio Free Europe.

Chechnya's parliamentary speaker made the unusual threat in response to US proposals to supply weapons to Ukraine.

The US Congress has passed a bill allowing President Obama to support Ukraine militarily against Russian aggression.

Obama has yet to take action, although has sanctioned a delivery of humvee military vehicles, which arrived in Kyiv this week.
