The main goal of Russian infrastructure projects, including the Kerch bridge, is the further militarization of the Crimea, the Permanent Representative of the President of Ukraine in the ARC, Boris Babin told QHA, commenting on the opening of the bridge from the Russian Federation to the annexed Ukrainian peninsula on 15 May.
According to Babin, the bridge will create prerequisites for even more active use of the occupied Ukrainian territory as a springboard for Russian aggression against Ukraine, as well as other European countries, the Mediterranean and Black Sea region.
“Not only the Kerch bridge, but also the Tavrida higheay along with two thermal power plants are the key infrastructure projects that the aggressor state carries out in the Crimea. Their main goal is to ensure the further militarization of the Crimea, creating prerequisites for a more active use of the peninsula as a springboard for Russian aggression against Ukraine, other European countries and the Mediterranean and Black Sea regions,” he said.
Babin further noted that the Kerch bridge will play a particular role in the economy of the annexed peninsula, but "obviously not a key one".
Earlier, the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Volodymyr Omelyan said that Russia will have to compensate for the losses of Ukraine because of the construction of the Kerch bridge. He stressed that Ukraine had sent relevant documents to international authorities.
QHA reported that, yesterday May 15, Putin solemnly opened the Crimean bridge. The head of the invader-state got behind the wheel of a truck "KAMAZ" and headed a column of trucks.
