SIMFEROPOL (QHA) -

A trial of “Crimea Fund” charitable organization took place Jan 27 in Simferopol. The judge refused to hold the trial in Crimean Tatar language, head of the electoral commission of Kurultay Zair Smedlyaev said, stressing that Crimean Constitution is not observed to QHA.

“The judge, Mrs. Tymoshenko refused to conduct the trial in Crimean Tatar—the official language of Crimea, amid Putin’s [Russian President Vladimir Putin] words about unheard-of status of Crimean Tatar language. There are only claims about the status of the language, still there is no any status”- Smedlyaev said.

Crimean Constitution adopted in April 2014, declared Crimean Tatar official language of the republic, along with Russian and Ukrainian languages.

Nov 18, Crimean charitable organization “Crimea Fund”, where the central office of the Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people was located, was fined 4,5 mln rubles. The chairman of the fund Riza Shevkiyev was imposed 350,000 rubles fine.

Riza Shevkiev has lodged an appeal against the decision of the court and said he would appeal to European Court of Human Rights to challenge this decision.
