Simferopol (QHA) - During the speech at the first session of Crimean Tatar Kurultay of VI convocation, head of the Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people Mustafa Jemilev said he is leaving his post. “It was a great honor to be head of Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people, to be the first elected person of the nation; still it was a great responsibility too. I was honored to be the leader of Crimean Tatar people for 22 years. I appreciate it. I thank my people, thank the delegates of previous Kurultays, who gave their votes for me. I also thank all those who criticized Mejlis’s work, it made us strive for improvement”- he said. “I also thank all our compatriots, our socio-political organizations, veterans of our national movement who filled up media with appeals for me not to leave the post. Still I believe that I have occupied it long enough and now I would still like to serve the Crimean Tatar supreme representative body, being outside of its composition,” claimed Jemilev. He also wished success to Kurultay delegates: “I hope the next five years will be a breakthrough in restoration of rights of Crimean Tatar people”- he said.
